Sally Magnusson Early Life

Born in 1955 in Glasgow, Magnusson is the eldest daughter of Magnus Magnusson, an Icelandic-born broadcaster and writer, and Mamie Baird, a newspaper journalist from Rutherglen. Her maternal uncle, Archie Baird, was a Scottish footballer who played for Aberdeen and St Johnstone. On her paternal side, her grandfather, Sigursteinn Magnusson, established an office for fish exports to Europe in Edinburgh.

Sally spent her early childhood in Garrowhill, Glasgow, before moving to Rutherglen, where she grew up with her younger siblings: Margaret, Anna, Siggy, and Jon. Later, the family relocated to the rural area of Balmore, just north of Glasgow. A tragic event occurred in May 1973 when her brother Siggy died at the age of 12, just three days after being struck by a lorry.
