He made his debut for Portsmouth on August 6, 2010, in a friendly match against Farnborough. His first competitive match for the academy ended in a 4–1 defeat to Chelsea.

During the 2011–12 season, Williams was promoted to train with Steve Cotterill’s first team. His first appearance with the senior squad came in a 4–0 victory over Havant & Waterlooville, where he impressed with a lively performance and an assist.
