Rúben Amorim Biography 2025
After retiring in 2017, he began his coaching career at Casa Pia in 2018 but resigned later that year due to a dispute with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). He then took over as head coach of Braga B before being promoted to the first team in December 2019, where he led the club to victory in the 2020 Taça da Liga. In March 2020, Amorim became the manager of Sporting CP in a transfer deal worth €10 million (£8.65 million), making him the third-most expensive manager in history at that time. He successfully led Sporting to a double of the Taça da Liga and the Primeira Liga, breaking a 19-year drought for the latter. His accomplishments earned him the Primeira Liga’s Manager of the Year award for the 2020–21 season, and he went on to secure another league title in the 2023–24 season.

Rúben Amorim Early Life
Rúben Filipe Marques Amorim is a Portuguese professional football manager and former player, currently serving as the manager of Primeira Liga club Sporting CP. Born on 27 January 1985 in Lisbon, Portugal, he primarily played as a midfielder but was also versatile enough to take on roles as a right-back or winger. Standing at 1.8 meters tall, Amorim has made significant contributions both on and off the field. He has been managing Sporting CP since 2020, further solidifying his impact in Portuguese football. He comes from a family with a supportive background, with parents Anabela and Virgílio Amorim encouraging his football journey.
Amorim was born in Lisbon and made his Primeira Liga debut on 14 December 2003, coming on as a substitute for Belenenses in a 2–0 victory against Alverca. He became a regular player from the 2005–06 season onward. In the 2007–08 season, he started in 28 out of 29 league matches, accumulating 2,491 minutes of play, and helped his team finish in eighth place. In April 2008, Amorim signed a four-year contract with Benfica after leaving Belenenses. He quickly became a regular starter, scoring his first goal on 23 November during a 2–0 away win against Académica de Coimbra. Though competition increased with the arrivals of Javi García and Ramires in the 2009–10 season, Amorim still played a significant role, appearing in 24 matches and contributing to the league and League Cup victories. However, in January 2011, he underwent knee surgery that sidelined him for several months.
