Pashupati Kumar Paras Biography 2024 Pashupati Kumar Paras born 12 July 1952 is an Indian politician who served as the Minister of Food Processing Industries in the Government of India from 2021 till his resignation in 2024.He currently serves as a Lok Sabha member representing Hajipur (Lok Sabha constituency) since 2019 and has previously served as the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources in the Bihar Government. He is the younger brother of the late Ram Vilas Paswan and formerly held the position of State President of the Bihar unit of Lok Janshakti Party. In June 2021, he was elected as the National President of Lok Janshakti Party, taking over from Chirag Kumar Paswan. Following a faction within the Lok Janshakti Party, he is now the National President of Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party as of 2021.

Pashupati Kumar Paras and his nephew Chirag Kumar Paswan recently became embroiled in controversy when Chirag Kumar Paswan asserted a seat-sharing agreement with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. In response, Union minister Pashupati Paras expressed strong views that contradicted his nephew’s announcement. Pashupati Paras has also requested the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party to review. This approach applies to current MPs. Three MPs from the Paswan community have declined ticket offers. Pashupati Paras mentioned on Friday that this conveys a negative message nationwide.

Political career

He has represented Alauli in the Bihar Legislative Assembly for seven terms starting in 1977. Previously holding ministerial positions three times in the state, he was defeated in the 2015 election. Despite not being a member of the Assembly or Council, he was appointed Minister in 2017 and later made an MLC through the Governor’s quota. In the 2019 Indian general election, he was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Hajipur constituency. During a cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed as the Minister of Food Processing Industry in the Second Modi ministry. Pashupati Kumar Paras resigned from Modi’s cabinet on March 19, 2024, following RLJP’s failure to secure any seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar.
