Nitish Kumar Reddy was born on 26 May 2003 in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Mutyala Reddy, a former Hindustan Zinc employee. Nitish’s passion for cricket started at a young age, beginning with a plastic bat when he was just five years old. He would often visit the Hindustan Zinc grounds to watch senior players. Encouraged by his father’s unwavering support, who even quit his job to help him pursue a cricket career, Nitish attended VDCA camps and began training under coaches Kumara Swamy, Krishna Rao, and Watekar. Nitish recalls, “I was around 12 or 13 when my dad decided to leave his job after being transferred to Udaipur. He analyzed the cricket scene there and was concerned about the politics affecting my game, so he dedicated his time fully to supporting my cricket journey.”

During his early years, Nitish’s talent was recognized by former Indian cricketer and selector MSK Prasad, who spotted him during Under-12 and Under-14 age group matches. This led to an opportunity for Nitish to train at the ACA academy in Kadapa under the guidance of coaches Madhusudhana Reddy and Srinivasa Rao. His breakthrough came in the 2017-18 Vijay Merchant Trophy, where he scored an outstanding 441 runs against Nagaland. Nitish finished the tournament with 1237 runs at an incredible average of 176.41, along with 26 wickets. His performance earned him the prestigious BCCI ‘Best Cricketer in the Under-16’ Jagmohan Dalmiya award for the 2017–2018 season, making him the first player from the Andhra Cricket Association to receive the BCCI award.
