As a teenager, Collins took part in after-school music programs where he began producing hip-hop beats. Influenced by artists like Pharrell Williams and Swizz Beatz, he admired their work ethic and versatility across genres. He explained, “These were artists and producers who were writing for other people in all types of genres. It just gave me an open ear for all different types of music and that’s how I approached it.” In 2008, he landed his first official production credit on a Nipsey Hussle single.
At age 22, Collins transitioned to rapping full-time and initially performed under the stage name Rockstar.
