Julión Álvarez, born Julio César Álvarez Montelongo on April 11, 1983, is a prominent Mexican singer known for his expertise in regional Mexican music. He was born and raised in La Concordia, Chiapas, Mexico. Álvarez began his music career in 2003 with the popular Mexican band Banda MS, where he stayed until 2006. He then pursued a solo career, forming Julión Álvarez y su Norteño Banda.

In 2011, he married Nathaly Fernández. In 2014, Álvarez became a coach on the Mexican talent show La Voz… México, where his contestant Guido Rochin won the competition under his mentorship. In 2015, his album El Aferrado was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Banda Album, and his song “El Amor de Su Vida” was nominated for Best Regional Song. Álvarez continued to gain recognition, with his album Mis Ídolos, Hoy Mis Amigos!!! also nominated for Best Banda Album at the 2016 Latin Grammy Awards.

However, in August 2017, the United States Department of the Treasury froze Álvarez’s U.S. assets, alleging violations of the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, which led to the cancellation of his U.S. tour. Álvarez denied the accusations and expressed his willingness to cooperate with authorities. After a prolonged investigation, the U.S. government cleared Álvarez of the allegations in June 2022, allowing him to resume his performances and business dealings in the U.S.
