Josh Maja Biography- Joshua Erowoli Orisunmihare Oluwaseun Maja born 27 December 1998 is a professional footballer who currently plays as a striker for EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion. Although born in England, he made one appearance for the Nigeria national team in 2019. Maja’s youth football career included stints with Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Manchester City, before he began his professional career at Sunderland, where he made 49 appearances and scored 18 goals. In January 2019, he moved to Bordeaux in France’s Ligue 1. Maja later had loan spells at Fulham and Stoke City in 2021 and 2022, playing in the Premier League with Fulham. After spending a season in Ligue 2, his contract with Bordeaux expired in 2023, and he joined West Bromwich Albion.

Early Life
Maja was born in the London Borough of Lewisham to Nigerian parents and grew up in Pimlico, London. He began his youth career at Crystal Palace and Fulham, and although he was officially registered with Fulham, he also spent time with Manchester City’s youth setup.
Club Career
Maja’s journey began when Manchester City did not offer him a scholarship, leading him to sign a two-year scholarship deal with Sunderland in March 2015, after an agreement with Fulham. He then signed his first professional contract with Sunderland in May 2016, committing to a three-year deal. Maja made his professional debut in a 2–1 win over Queens Park Rangers in the EFL Cup, coming on as a substitute for Joel Asoro in the 69th minute. Although he didn’t feature again that season, he was include on the bench during Sunderland’s Premier League campaign, which ended in relegation.
Maja made his league debut on December 16, 2017, when he replace James Vaughan at the Stadium of Light and scored Sunderland’s only goal of the match five minutes later. The game ended as Sunderland’s first home win of 2017 and came against Fulham, his former youth club. Manager Chris Coleman praised Maja’s performance, saying, “I’ve been very impressed with Josh. He’s different, he gives us a big injection of personality.” Maja went on to make 17 appearances in the Championship that season, but despite his promising debut, he did not score again.
