He played college football at both the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama, winning the national championship with Georgia in 2021. During his freshman year at Georgia in 2020, Burton appeared in 10 games, recording three touchdowns and accumulating 404 yards on 27 receptions.

After leading Alabama with 798 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, he declared for the 2025 NFL Draft following a notable incident at the conclusion of a game against Tennessee, where he struck a female fan in the head as the Tennessee crowd rushed the field.
