He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and was selected by the Dolphins as the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his freshman season at Alabama, Waddle had an impressive performance in a game against Louisiana on September 29, 2018, where he recorded three receptions for 138 yards, two receiving touchdowns, and a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown. In the SEC Championship against Georgia, he contributed with four receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
