After a year out of the ring, Ennis put Avanesyan down in the fifth before the doctor stopped the fight in the corner at the end of the round. As the other Champions at 147lbs turned down unification opportunities, Ennis instead defended his IBF World Title against mandatory challenger Karen Chukhadzhian for a second time, four months later back at the Wells Fargo Center. Ennis dropped the Ukrainian on his way to a 12-round UD win.

Boots turned down the chance to move to 154 and fight Vergil Ortiz and instead landed a monster unification with WBA World Welterweight Champion Eimantas Stanionis in Atlantic City in April 2025. Boots turned in a statement performance, forcing the Stanionis corner to pull their man out at the end of the sixth round to also capture the vacant Ring Magazine Title.
