Ennis’ final fight of 2020 came against former IBO welterweight champion Chris “The Heat” van Heerden. The scheduled 12-round bout took place on December 19 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Montville, Connecticut, for the vacant IBO welterweight title. The fight initially appeared headed for another knockout victory for Ennis after a dominant first round. However, an accidental clash of heads caused a severe gash on van Heerden’s forehead, which resulted in heavy bleeding. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight, deeming it a No-Contest due to the injury.

Jaron Ennis Early Life

Ennis made his professional debut on April 30, 2016, with a first-round knockout (KO) victory over Cory Muldrew at the Dixie Center in St. George, Utah. He went on to fight seven more times that year, scoring four consecutive stoppage victories over Luis Ramos (May), Deshawn Debose (June), Tavorus Teague (July), and Matt Murphy (August). In September, Ennis went the distance for the first time in his career, defeating Eddie Diaz by unanimous decision (UD) in a scheduled four-round bout. He closed out the year with two more stoppage wins against Chris Alexander (November) and Marcus Beckford (December).

Ennis began 2017 with another first-round KO, this time against Elvin Perez in January. He followed up with his second decision victory, a unanimous decision over James Winchester in March.
