Shayk was born in the town of Yemanzhelinsk, located in Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast region (then part of the Soviet Union). Her father, Valery Shaykhlislamov, was a coal miner of Volga Tatar descent, while her mother, Olga, is ethnically Russian and worked as a kindergarten music teacher.
