Born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 11, 1953, Terry Gene Bollea is the son of Pietro “Peter” Bollea, a construction foreman, and Ruth V. (née Moody), a homemaker and dance teacher. Hogan is of Italian, Panamanian, Scottish, and French descent. He had an older brother, Allan, who passed away in 1986 at the age of 38 due to a drug overdose. The family moved to Port Tampa, Florida, when Hogan was just 18 months old. As a child, Hogan was an avid baseball player and pitched for his Little League team. He attended Robinson High School and became an avid wrestling fan at 16. It was at the Tampa Sportatorium, where he frequently attended live wrestling events, that Hogan first became inspired by Superstar Billy Graham and aspired to replicate his imposing physique.
