Fakhar Zaman is a Pakistani cricketer who represents the Pakistan national team. He made headlines by scoring his first ODI century against India in 2017. Zaman is also an opening batter for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. His fame skyrocketed after he played a pivotal role in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, where he was named Man of the Match for his 114 runs off 106 balls against India. On July 20, 2018, he became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double century in an ODI.

In August 2018, he was among the thirty-three players awarded a central contract for the 2018–19 season by the Pakistan Cricket Board. On April 4, 2021, while chasing a target against South Africa in the second ODI, Zaman scored 193 runs before being run out by Quinton de Kock. This innings set a new record for the highest individual score while chasing in an ODI, surpassing Shane Watson’s 185 against Bangladesh. On November 4, 2023, he broke Imran Nazir’s record by hitting 11 sixes against New Zealand, leading Pakistan to victory.

Fakhar Zaman Early Life
Fakhar was born on April 10, 1990, in Katlang, Mardan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, into a Pashtun family. He is the youngest of five brothers and two sisters; his father is a farmer, and one of his brothers works as a teacher at Government High School Katlang. At the age of 16, he moved to Karachi after completing his matriculation. In 2007, Zaman joined the Pakistan Navy as a sailor, having received his schooling and training at the Pakistan Navy School, Bahadur.
His father encouraged him to pursue this career, hoping to divert his son’s childhood obsession with cricket towards academics. The name “Fakhar” translates to “pride,” and among his teammates, he is affectionately nicknamed “fauji,” meaning soldier. In 2012, he represented the Navy in the International Defence Cricket Challenge Cup in Australia, where he was named the best player of the tournament. In recognition of his contributions to cricket, the Navy awarded him the honorary rank of Lieutenant in 2020.
