Edward Nathan George Jr. born September 24, 1973 is an American football coach and former player, currently serving as the head football coach at Tennessee State University. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons, mainly with the Houston / Tennessee Oilers / Titans franchise. George played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes and won the Heisman Trophy in 1995. He was selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft and went on to play professionally for the Tennessee Titans (both in Tennessee and Houston when the franchise was known as the Houston Oilers) and the Dallas Cowboys. In recognition of his remarkable college career, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011, and he was also honored with an induction into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. After his football career, George earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He also ventured into entertainment, making a guest appearance on an episode of the satirical talk show Comedy Bang! Bang! in 2015 and performing on Broadway in 2016 as the slick lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago.

As a freshman, he made an impact by scoring three rushing touchdowns in a victory over Syracuse. However, he faced a setback in a game against Illinois when he fumbled at the Illinois 4-yard line, and the ball was returned for a touchdown. Later in the game, with Ohio State leading by two points in the final quarter, George fumbled again on Illinois’ 1-yard line. Illinois recovered the fumble and scored the game-winning touchdown.
Prior to the Illinois game, George had carried the ball 25 times and scored five touchdowns, but after the fumbles, he had only 12 more rushing attempts for the rest of the season, with no additional touchdowns. In the following season, George was listed as the third-string running back behind Raymont Harris. He only rushed the ball 42 times, primarily in blowout games, but showed his potential with an average of 5.3 yards per carry. By his junior year, George became the starting running back and went on to rush for 1,442 yards and 12 touchdowns, solidifying his reputation as a key player for the Buckeyes.

He attended Abington Senior High School until the tenth grade, after which he transferred to Fork Union Military Academy.
