George attended Ohio State University, where he majored in landscape architecture and played for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. As a freshman, he made an impact by scoring three rushing touchdowns in a victory over Syracuse. However, he faced a setback in a game against Illinois when he fumbled at the Illinois 4-yard line, and the ball was returned for a touchdown. Later in the game, with Ohio State leading by two points in the final quarter, George fumbled again on Illinois’ 1-yard line. Illinois recovered the fumble and scored the game-winning touchdown.

He only rushed the ball 42 times, primarily in blowout games, but showed his potential with an average of 5.3 yards per carry.
