Coulier’s interest in comedy began in high school, where he would entertain his classmates by impersonating the principal and other staff members over the school’s public address system. He graduated in 1977 from Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan, where he also played defense on the varsity ice hockey team alongside future NHL player John Blum. During high school, Coulier became close friends with Mark Cendrowski, and together they often made 8mm films. After high school, Coulier attended the University of Michigan but dropped out after his first year to pursue a full-time career in comedy.
