Darius Demetrius Slay Jr. born January 1, 1991 is a professional football cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL. He began his college career at Itawamba before transferring to Mississippi State, and was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Slay began his college career at Itawamba Community College before transferring to Mississippi State University. As a freshman at Itawamba, Slay was named First-team All-State by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) and earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 honors after recording 41 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and two forced fumbles in just five games.

In his final season at Itawamba, Slay played in all nine games, recording 32 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and also caught 3 passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. He was named MACJC First-team All-State for both defense and special teams. After his time at Itawamba, Slay joined Mississippi State’s football team under head coach Dan Mullen in 2011 and 2012. Over his two seasons with the Bulldogs, he totaled 64 tackles, six interceptions, and two touchdowns.

Darius Slay Early Life

Slay grew up in Brunswick, Georgia, and attended Brunswick High School, where he played as a running back and defensive back. Following his senior season, he was named All-State by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a defensive back and was selected for the Georgia North-South All-Star Game. In 2008, he rushed for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also intercepting six passes and returning two for touchdowns. His junior season was cut short by a torn medial collateral ligament after he had gained 336 yards and scored six touchdowns in just five games. As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,127 yards on 142 carries and scored 13 touchdowns. In addition to football, Slay was also a talented track and field athlete, recording times of 10.92 seconds in the 100 meters and 22 seconds in the 200 meters.
