He played college football at Eastern Washington, where he won the Walter Payton Award as a junior, and was drafted by the Rams in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Kupp had a breakout season in 2021, becoming the fourth player since the AFL-NFL merger to lead the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.

Kupp was born in Yakima, Washington, into a football family. His grandfather, Jake Kupp, was an NFL offensive lineman, and his father, Craig Kupp, was an NFL quarterback. His family is one of only five in NFL history to have three generations drafted. Kupp attended Davis High School in Yakima, where he excelled in football and basketball. A two-sport athlete, he was named a two-way All-State selection in football, earning first-team 4A All-State honors as a defensive back and honorable mention as a wide receiver. He set a school record with 22 total touchdowns his senior year and helped lead his team close to a Washington State 4A playoff berth. Despite his impressive high school stats, he didn’t receive any college scholarship offers until later, eventually committing to Eastern Washington.
