Chris Pratt Early Life
Christopher Michael Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota. His mother, Kathleen Louise “Kathy” (née Indahl), worked at a Safeway supermarket, while his father, Daniel Clifton Pratt, was employed in mining and later in home remodeling. Pratt’s father passed away in 2014 from multiple sclerosis. His mother is of Norwegian descent, and he has two older siblings, Cully and Angie. At the age of seven, the family moved to Lake Stevens, Washington. During high school, Pratt placed fifth in a state wrestling competition and was also a shot putter on his school’s track team. He recalled telling his wrestling coach that he didn’t know what he wanted to do, but was certain he would become famous and make a lot of money, despite not having any clear plan at the time. He graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 1997.
After dropping out of community college midway through his first semester, Pratt had a series of odd jobs, including working as a discount ticket salesman and a daytime stripper. Eventually, he found himself homeless in Maui, Hawaii, where he lived in a van and a tent on the beach. Reflecting on this period, he described it as “a pretty awesome place to be homeless” as he spent his time drinking, smoking weed, and working just enough to cover his basic needs. During this time, Pratt became deeply familiar with Dr. Dre’s album 2001, memorizing every lyric. Later, he even rapped Eminem’s verses from “Forgot About Dre” during an interview. While in Maui, Pratt also worked for the Christian missionary organization Jews for Jesus.
