A consensus five-star recruit, he was widely regarded as one of the top shooting guards in the 2020 class. Thomas made history as the youngest player ever to score 40 or more points in three consecutive NBA games. He played college basketball for the LSU Tigers.

During his senior year at Oak Hill, he averaged 31.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer. He posted over 30 points in nine games, including two 40-point performances. Thomas led his team to a Tournament of Champions title and was named the most valuable player of the event. He was also selected to play in the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic.

He began his high school basketball career as a freshman at Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. However, he did not play during his sophomore season due to differences between him and the coaching staff. For his junior year, Thomas transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, where he joined future NBA stars Cole Anthony and Kofi Cockburn on one of the country’s top teams.
