Madix was born on June 24, 1985, in Melbourne, Florida, to James and Tanya Madix. She grew up with her parents and younger brother, Jeremy. Her father, of Irish descent, struggled with personal issues, which created a challenging family environment. In an interview with Glamour, Madix reflected on her childhood, describing her father as often absent and her mother as the primary caregiver. She revealed that she coped with this by striving for perfection, believing it might make her father more present.
From the age of 6, Madix was involved in equestrian sports and had a competitive career in horse riding. She also won two national dance championships. She graduated from Eau Gallie High School in 2003 and later earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Broadcast Communications from Flagler College in 2007. During her college years, she worked as a costumed character at Disney World, portraying characters like Ariel, Cinderella, and Aurora. After graduation, Madix moved to New York City to pursue her Broadway dreams, where she worked as a bartender and hostess at Butter restaurant for five years.
