Andreas Pereira is the son of former Brazilian footballer Marcos Pereira. He was born in Duffel, Belgium, while his father was playing professionally in the country. In 2005, at the age of nine, he joined PSV Eindhoven’s youth system. After impressing at the Manchester United Premier Cup in 2011, Pereira attracted interest from major English clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. Ultimately, he chose to sign with Manchester United after a personal visit from then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson in November 2011.
However, due to FIFA regulations regarding international transfers, the move could not be officially completed until Pereira turned 16 on January 1, 2012. Additional delays due to international clearance meant his debut for United’s youth team didn’t come until April 2012. He played his first match for the under-18s against Sheffield Wednesday on April 25, but the game was abandoned after 35 minutes due to heavy rain. He went on to make two more appearances that season as the under-18s finished eighth in their Premier Academy League group.
