Early Life and Education
Bea was born in Kildare, Ireland, to Brian, a horse veterinarian who tragically died by suicide when she was just three years old. It wasn’t until she turned 13 that she learned the true circumstances of his death. She chose the stage name “Bea” as a tribute to her father, taking it from a shortened version of his first name. Along with her younger sister, Sinéad, she was raised by their mother, Helen (née Moloney), a secondary school teacher and former professional jockey who also trained jockeys at the Racing Academy and Centre of Education. The family had a strong passion for horses and horse racing.
In her early years, Bea worked as a tour guide at the Irish National Stud, but she realized she was not interested in the racing industry; instead, she was drawn to performing. Her great-aunt was playwright Siobhán Ní Shúilleabháin, and musician Liam O’Flynn was a family friend. Bea attended Presentation Secondary School in Kildare Town, a Catholic institution, before studying French and philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. While there, she participated in a student sketch comedy group. She later continued her education at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
