Bianca Vanessa Andreescu was born in Mississauga, Ontario, to Nicu and Maria Andreescu. Her parents immigrated from Romania to Canada in 1994 after her father accepted a job there. Her father works as a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry, while her mother previously worked in banking in Romania. When Bianca was six, her family moved back to Romania so her mother could start a business, but after two and a half years, they closed the business and returned to Canada. Since then, her mother has served as the chief compliance officer at a financial services firm.
Andreescu began playing tennis at age seven in Pitești, Romania, where she was initially coached by Gabriel Hristache, a friend of her father. Upon returning to Canada, she trained at the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga before advancing to the U14 National Training Centre in Toronto, operated by Tennis Canada. She started taking her tennis training more seriously around the age of 12.
