His mother, a Holocaust survivor, lived through the Łódź Ghetto and was later imprison in Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. His father was a personal injury attorney and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Even as a child, Heyman showed entrepreneurial flair. By age 11, he was running a mail-order business from home, selling celebrity and sports memorabilia. As a teenager, he regularly attended wrestling shows at Madison Square Garden, managing to access backstage areas by posing as a photojournalist for wrestling magazines. Some of his photos were publish by the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). Heyman graduated from Edgemont High School and later attended SUNY Purchase, where he worked as a radio personality. He also hosted shows on WARY-FM, affiliated with Westchester Community College.
