Judith Jacob Biography: Judith Jacob born 13 December 1961 is a British actress, best known for her role as health visitor Carmel Roberts in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, a character she portrayed from 1986 to 1989. During her time in Albert Square, Carmel endured severe marital abuse, her husband’s attempted murder, and their eventual separation. In 1991, Jacob became a founding member of BiBi Crew, the first comedy troupe in Britain made up entirely of Black actresses. She also launched a live talk show called Judith Jacob Yabba Yabbas With Friends at the Hackney Empire.

Judith Jacobs was born in 1650 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts, United States, to Richard Jacob, who was 45, and Martha Appleton, who was 30 at the time. In 1678, she married William Hasey Jr., and together they had at least three sons and three daughters. Judith passed away on 17 November 1718 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, at the age of 68. She was laid to rest in Rumney Marsh, Revere, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States.

Career
Jacob attended London’s Anna Scher Theatre, joining at the age of 12. She made her television debut at 13 in the BBC series Play for Today. Two of her drama school classmates, Susan Tully (who played Michelle Fowler) and Phil Daniels (who played Kevin Wicks), also later joined EastEnders. Before her role in EastEnders, Jacob was a founding member of the Black Theatre Co-operative (BTC), a collective that created opportunities for actors, writers, and directors to showcase a multicultural Britain through stage and television work.
Jacob’s career prior to EastEnders included regular roles in the hospital drama Angels (1979–81) and the Channel 4 sitcom No Problem! (1983–85). Her other television credits include appearances in the comedy sketch show The Real McCoy (1991), The Queen’s Nose (1995), Holby City (2003), Doctors (2003), and My Family (2004).
