High School Career

Lillard began his high school career at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California, where he joined the varsity starting lineup as a 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m) freshman. After his coach did not return to the team, Lillard sought to transfer. He moved to St. Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda, California, the same school that produced former NBA point guard Jason Kidd. However, due to limited playing time, Lillard transferred once more, this time to Oakland High School, where he played for coach Orlando Watkins. Lillard was named First Team All-League in both his junior and senior years. During his junior season, he averaged 19.4 points per game and as a senior.

Despite being rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and not being heavily recruited, Lillard accepted a scholarship to play at Weber State, a program in the Big Sky Conference in Ogden, Utah.
