A native of Kashmir, Misri, a career diplomat, has occupied various significant roles at both the Ministry of External Affairs and the prime minister’s office (PMO). He obtained a degree in History and an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur. At the start of his career, Misri served as the under secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during the IK Gujral administration from November 1996 to April 1997. Subsequently, he was appointed as Gujral’s private secretary from April 1997 to March 1998.
Between April 1998 and August 2000, the IFS officer served as an under secretary for the Pakistan desk at the MEA. From November 2006 to September 2008, during Pranab Mukherjee’s tenure as Foreign Minister of India, Misri was the Director of the Office at the MEA. In 2012, he briefly held the position of joint secretary at the PMO from March to October. Subsequently, he served as the private secretary to then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh until May 2014. Misri was also the Consul General of India in Germany from 2011 to 2012 and the Deputy High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka from 2008 to 2011.
