Crompton began building his television and film career with appearances in Clocking Off (2001–2003) and Mike Leigh’s drama All or Nothing (2002). He portrayed Ewan in 102 Dalmatians and appeared alongside Ciarán Hinds in The Mayor of Casterbridge (2003). He also starred opposite Victoria Wood in the BAFTA-winning television film Housewife, 49.
From 2005 to 2011, he played the role of Colin in the cult BBC Three sitcom Ideal. He later portrayed Keith in Pramface (2012–2014) and featured in ITV’s The Suspicions of Mr Whicher (2011) as William Nutt. In 2012, Crompton appeared in the crime drama Blood and continued to add to his television resume with appearances in Vera, Marcella, and Motherland. His performance as Eddison Tollett in Game of Thrones became one of his most recognizable roles, starting in the show’s second season and continuing through to its finale in 2019.
