Bradley was born in Tacoma, Washington, to Avery Bradley Sr. and Alicia Jones-Bradley. He has three brothers and one sister. His mother worked at a welfare office, while his father served in the military for 22 years. Following their divorce in 2001, Bradley lived with his mother but continued to have a close bond with his father, whose military career often had him relocating. Bradley became a fan of the Texas Longhorns during the years he lived in Arlington, Texas, from 2001 to 2004. Just before he entered eighth grade, his family moved back to Tacoma. During his youth, he played on the same AAU basketball team as future NBA teammate Isaiah Thomas.
