James Comey was born in Yonkers, New York, to Joan Marie and J. Brien Comey. His grandfather, William J. Comey, served as both an officer and later the commissioner of the Yonkers Police Department. In the early 1970s, his family moved to Allendale, New Jersey. His father worked in corporate real estate, while his mother was a homemaker and computer consultant.
