Early Life and Education
Kilmeade was born in 1964 in Massapequa, New York, as the second son of Marie Rose (née D’Andrea) and James Kilmeade Jr. His father, born in 1931, was the son of James Kilmeade Sr., who immigrated to the U.S. from Longford, Ireland in 1925 and became a U.S. citizen in 1930. His mother, born in 1934, was from Ozone Park and raised in St. Albans, Queens. After graduating from Massapequa High School in 1982, Kilmeade went on to attend LIU Post in Brookville, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
Career
Kilmeade began his career at Channel One News, a national high school television news program, where he worked as a correspondent. He then moved on to KHSL-TV in Chico, California, where he served as a host and anchor. During this time, he also became involved in sports radio and television. He co-hosted “The Jim Brown Show” on KLSD, an all-sports radio network, and in 1993, he began providing commentary for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events, even transitioning into a play-by-play announcing role for UFC 2 and UFC 3 in 1994.
In 1997, Kilmeade moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he worked as a freelance sports anchor for WVIT, an NBC affiliate. He also hosted “NewSport Journal” and “Scoreboard Central” for NewSport, covering major sports stories of the day. In 1998, Kilmeade became the host of Fox News’ morning program, Fox and Friends, alongside Steve Doocy. Both Kilmeade and Doocy have been hosting the show since its inception, with a rotating cast of female co-hosts.

Kilmeade’s time at Fox News hasn’t been without controversy. In 2009, he made remarks about Americans marrying “other species and other ethnics,” which sparked backlash. He later apologized for these comments. In 2010, Kilmeade made a controversial statement, claiming that “not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.” He later clarified that he misspoke and was referring specifically to terrorists who had attacked Americans, such as those involved in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
