He played one season of college basketball for the UCLA Bruins before being select by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft. Holiday spent four seasons with the 76ers before being trad to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013. In 2020, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he won his first NBA championship in 2021. In 2023, he was traded to the Celtics via the Portland Trail Blazers and went on to win his second NBA championship with the team in 2024. A two-time NBA All-Star and six-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection, Holiday is also a gold medalist with the U.S. Olympic teams in 2020 and 2024.

Holiday was born to Shawn and Toya (née DeCree) Holiday, both of whom play college basketball at Arizona State, where Toya was name the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1982. He attended Campbell Hall School in Studio City, California, where he excelled in his senior year, averaging 25.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 4.8 steals per game. His team finish with a 31–5 record and won the California Division IV state title. Holiday was ranked as the No. 1 point guard and the No. 2 overall prospect in the Class of 2008 by Rivals.com. He was honored as the 2008 Gatorade National Player of the Year and a first-team Parade All-American. Additionally, Holiday played in the McDonald’s All-American Game, where he recorded 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, and five steals.
College Career
During the 2008–09 season, Holiday played alongside future NBA player Darren Collison at UCLA. He appeared in all 35 games, starting every one, and averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in 27.1 minutes of play. He shot 45.0% from the field, 30.7% from three-point range, and 72.6% from the free-throw line, earning a spot on the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team. His career-high in points came when he scored 20 points on perfect 8-of-8 shooting in just 19 minutes against Florida International. He also contributed 13 points and six assists in a nail-biting one-point win over Virginia Commonwealth in the NCAA tournament’s first round. After his freshman year, Holiday declared for the NBA Draft, opting to forgo his remaining college eligibility.
