Yorkshire Day 2025- Yorkshire Day is an annual event held on 1 August to support the traditional county of Yorkshire, England. It was first observed by the Yorkshire Ridings Society in 1975 in Beverley as a response to the local government reorganization of 1974. August 1 marks the passing of the Slavery Abolition Act 1833 in the British Empire in 1834. William Wilberforce, an MP from Yorkshire, played a key role in advocating for this emancipation. The day was previously marked by the Light Infantry, the descendants of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, as Minden Day, in honor of the battle of Minden. Like five other infantry regiments of the British Army, individuals are allowed to wear a rose in their headgear. The Light Infantry wear a white rose for this occasion.
