When Is The Next Full Moon?
The upcoming full moon is on Friday, June 21 at 9:08 p.m. EDT (0108 GMT on June 22). It will seem full the night before and after the peak to casual stargazers. June’s full moon is also called the Strawberry Moon due to berries in North America during that time of year. The Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) celebrated it with feasts, while the Cree named it Opiniyawiwipisim, meaning Egg Laying Moon when birds started laying eggs. Other names for this moon are Berries Ripen Moon, Green Corn Moon, and Hot Moon according to Time and Date. Celtic names include Mead Moon, Horse Moon, Dyan Moon, and Rose Moon. Usually, the full moon isn’t entirely visible as part of it remains in shadow because of the moon’s rotation. It is only fully visible when the moon, Earth, and sun are perfectly aligned.

What Is A Full Moon?
During a full Moon, the Moon appears completely illuminated from the perspective of Earth. This happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned in a straight line, with the Sun and Moon positioned on opposite sides of the Earth. The Sun’s light shines directly on the visible part of the Moon, resulting in a bright, full circle of light.
Traditional And Alternative Names
Full Moon names originated from the customs of North American Native American tribes, who assigned unique names to each full moon to mark the changing seasons. These names captured the spirit of the respective months. Despite slight variations among tribes, a sense of consistency prevailed across regions. European settlers later adopted and incorporated their own versions of these names into the tradition.
What Is A Supermoon?
A Supermoon happens when the Moon is at least 90% of the way to its perigee position during its “full” or “new” phase. An extreme perigean Supermoon occurs when a full or new Moon coincides with perigee.
Blue Moon
Is it possible to experience two full Moons in one month? Indeed, when this occurs, the second full Moon is known as a “blue Moon” (despite not being blue in color!). This occurrence typically takes place every two to three years.
A Daytime Full Moon?
As noted earlier, while the Moon may appear full a few days before or after the specified time, it is officially considered full for only a moment. This peak brightness might occur during daylight in certain regions.
Does A Full Moon Affect Your Behavior?
Although there is no definitive agreement on the impact of Moons on our emotions and health, numerous studies and personal anecdotes attribute various effects to lunar phases, such as heightened crime rates, accidents, and sleep disturbances. When individuals synchronize their energies with specific lunar cycles, they often report feeling more motivated and efficient. Connecting with the natural world can lead to a deeper self-awareness, prompting many to establish monthly self-care rituals to realign with nature’s rhythms and foster self-reflection.
Does The Moon Affect Fishing?
The Moon’s phases can impact fish behavior, with fish being most active around the time of a full or new Moon, similar to deer. Fishing can be most successful when the moonrise or moonset coincides with sunrise or sunset.
