Chirag Kumar Paswan, born on October 31, 1982, is an Indian politician and former actor. He has been serving as the 1st president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) since 2021, the 2nd president of Lok Janshakti Party from 2019 to 2021, and a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency since 2025. He is the son of the late Member of Parliament and Union Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan.

Chirag Paswan, the son of former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, leads the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and represents the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency. Initially aiming for a Bollywood career, Chirag entered the film industry with the 2011 movie “Miley Naa Miley Hum,” which failed to succeed, leading him to abandon his acting aspirations. Subsequently, he transitioned into politics, joining his father’s party, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and attaining a seat in the Lok Sabha.

The Grand Alliance era saw a decline for the LJP, with Paswan not holding a ministerial position for the first time since entering Delhi politics in 1989. After being diagnosed with a heart ailment in 2013, Paswan handed over leadership to his son. This led to a change in the party’s strategy as they joined the National Democratic Alliance, resulting in victories in the 2014 and 2019 elections. Before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Paswan delegated significant responsibilities to his son, paving the way for a transfer of power that proved to be politically beneficial. This move strengthened the LJP, enabling them to win six out of seven contested seats and become the second-largest party after the BJP. Consequently, in 2019, Chirag was appointed as the national president of LJP.

The 2020 Assembly elections posed a significant challenge for Chirag due to two main reasons. Firstly, it was his first election without his father’s presence in politics. Secondly, after the LJP’s formal departure from the NDA alliance in Bihar, Chirag lost the direct support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chirag’s political standing suffered a blow following the 2022 split within the LJP, led by his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who went on to establish his party, the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party.
