Adivasi Divas is observed annually in India on August 9th to celebrate the indigenous tribal communities known as Adivasi, who are recognized as the original inhabitants of the country. They have unique cultures, languages, and traditions, and have a history of living in harmony with nature. This event aims to acknowledge and respect the cultural heritage, history, and contributions of indigenous peoples worldwide, including the Adivasi groups in India. The date coincides with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, designated by the United Nations in 1993. In December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution declaring 1993 as the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
